Converted sizes
Shoe size conversion is approximate because brands use different lasts, widths, toe shapes, and fit standards. For children, foot growth and brand fit can vary quickly, so use the converted size as a starting point and compare it with the retailer's own chart when possible. Japan shoe sizes are commonly based on foot length in centimeters.
Stand on paper, mark the heel and longest toe, then measure the distance in centimeters. Compare that length with the converter result and choose the size that gives enough room for your usual socks and foot shape.
When buying for a child who is not with you, use the child's current height, foot length, or the size that fits today rather than only the age on the label. Children grow at different speeds, and baby clothing sizes are especially approximate. If the item is a gift, choosing one size up is often safer than choosing a size that may already be too small.
For Japanese children's clothing, the size number often tracks height in centimeters. A child wearing Japan 100 is generally around 100 cm tall, but brands may still vary in sleeve length, waist, rise, and shoulder width.
